Hiking-holidays

If you like hiking, but don’t want to carry a lot of luggage, Hillerød Camping is an ideal base for day trips in the green.

National Park Kongernes Nordsjælland

Kongernes Nordsjælland National Park is Denmark’s second largest national park, containing one of Denmark’s largest forests and the country’s two largest lakes, many different types of nature and traces of church and royal power in the form of castles, monasteries and castle ruins. Read more here!

Store Dyrehave

Store Dyrehave, where you will find the Parforcejagt landscape, which is the only Danish World Heritage Site to have been selected for UNESCO and National Geographic’s major initiative WORLD HERITAGE JOURNEY’S EUROPE. The star-shaped path system that characterizes the landscape was created by Christian V to practice parforce-hunting, inspired by the Sun King at Versailles.

The pilgrimage routes

From Hillerød Camping you can experience two out of three stages of the North Zealand Pilgrimage Route. North towards Esrum Abbey, which takes you around Frederiksborg Castle, North Zealand’s oldest church, Nødebo Church, and Denmark’s next largest lake, Esrum Lake. Or south towards Ballerup, where the route passes several churches and the St. Joseph Carmel Monastery, where it is possible to stop for a coffee break. If you don’t fancy carrying your luggage around, you can use our site as a base for some great day trips.read more here!

Whether you’re into mountain biking or granny bikes, there are plenty of options for trips out from the campsite.

The arboretum in Hørsholm

At Arboretum Hørsholm you’ll find the largest collection of shrubs and trees in Denmark, originally established in 1936 to teach botany and plant use at the University of Copenhagen. The site is still used for research, but is also open to visitors with a general interest in botany.

I Esther’s Garden landscaper Esther Geneser has laid out around 9,000 of her 38,000-square-meter plot as a Provence-inspired landscape, with lavender, flowers and trees arranged as seen in the south of France and Italy. She regularly organizes events and  courses in flower arranging and more.

If you want to look at shops, we have Slotsarkaderne, as well as the pedestrian streets Slotsgade and Helsingørgade in Hillerød within walking distance from the site. Stengade in Helsingør also offers a nice experience. We are happy to guide you to where to find good neighborhoods for shopping in Copenhagen.
